Bible Verses for a Stressful Day at Work

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28 (WEB)
Some workdays are just heavy. The inbox refills faster than you can empty it, the meeting goes sideways, and by 2 p.m. your shoulders are somewhere up around your ears.
These verses are for those days. Keep this page open in another browser tab. Nobody walking past your desk will know it is there, but you will.
When the workload is too much
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
Jesus said this to working people. Farmers, fishermen, tradesmen. The invitation still stands at your desk.
When the pressure will not let up
Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. (Psalm 55:22)
Sustained is a workday word. Not rescued out of the day, but held up through it.
When your mind will not stop racing
You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3)
Peace here is not the absence of deadlines. It is a mind anchored to something the deadlines cannot touch.
When the work feels pointless
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. (Colossians 3:23)
The audience for your work is bigger than your manager. Nothing done faithfully is wasted.
When tomorrow is already worrying you
Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. (Matthew 6:34)
You have grace for today's workload. Tomorrow's grace arrives tomorrow.
Try this today
Pick the verse that names your kind of stressful day. Read it once before your next meeting, once at lunch, and once before you log off. Three readings, ten seconds each. It is a small habit that quietly changes the weather of a workday.
Lord, be in this workday. Steady my mind, lighten what I am carrying, and remind me who I am actually working for. Amen.
