New Mercies This Morning

New Mercies This Morning: devotional cover photo
They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.Lamentations 3:23 (WEB)

It's easy to wake up already behind. Yesterday's short temper, the words you wish you could take back, the thing you promised yourself you'd stop doing and did anyway. They're usually the first thoughts waiting at the edge of the bed.

Here's what's remarkable about Lamentations 3: it was written in the middle of the worst season of the author's life. The book is literally named for grief. And yet, tucked into the center of it, is one of the most hopeful sentences in all of scripture: His compassion doesn't fail. It is new every morning.

Not recycled. Not leftover. New.

God's mercy isn't a limited resource you drained last week. Every sunrise is a hard reset, not because your failures don't matter, but because His faithfulness is greater than they are.

Try this today

Before you pick up your phone tomorrow morning, say one sentence out loud: "His mercies are new this morning, including for me." Let that be the first voice you hear, before the notifications get their turn.

Father, thank You that Your compassion never runs out. Help me receive today as a fresh start, and extend that same mercy to the people around me. Amen.
